GREEN TEAM

What Is Composting?

What Can I Compost at GHBC? (January 2023)

GREEN TEAM CHARTER

Established at Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads in 2006
Written in March 2006; Approved by Resident Council in April 2008
Revised January 2023

The Green Team exists to raise awareness among residents and staff of ways our personal and collective practices can contribute to a more sustainable future for the earth. We seek to educate as well as to affect decisions and policies within the GHBC community.

Our goals include to:

MINIMIZE WASTE, by using less water and fewer throw-away products such as paper napkins, plastic and Styrofoam items.

DECREASE AMOUNT OF ENERGY CONSUMED, with such measures as replacing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent or LEDs and turning off power when not needed and explore ways to provide alternative power service for GHBC.

ENCOURAGE RECYCLING throughout our building.

LEARN AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT TOXINS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT, including pesticides, fumes, and “off-gassing” from products, and questionable food ingredients. Share information about pressing REGIONAL, NATIONAL, and INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS.

ENGAGE WITH MANAGEMENT, including the Executive Director, Dining Services, Facility Operations, and Health Services, concerning "green" measures in their area of operation.

SHARE INFORMATION AMONG OUR MEMBERS AND THE GHBC COMMUNITY, such as monthly films, displays and printed materials, a dedicated Green Team shelf in the GHBC Library, speakers, and occasional field trips.

RESPOND TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS FROM RESIDENTS AND STAFF.

Concerned by the many reliable reports of the threat to the earth posed by climate change, a group of GHBC residents came together to share ideas. This led us to consider ways that, as a group, we might influence GHBC residents and staff to become proactive in combating this threat and in supporting sustainability.
