Odds are that you have a family member or friend with whom you can’t even have a civil conversation in our polarized nation right now. Are there some ways to bridge these huge gaps so that you can talk again? Our presenter for this Senior Quest session, Rebecca Cataldi, is a specialist and trainer in conflict resolution and preventing/countering violent extremism, and serves as Senior Program Manager at the International Center for Religion & Diplomacy.
She comes to us as a volunteer with the Braver Angels chapter of Northern Virginia, which gathers “Reds” and “Blues” in homes, retreats, and other venues to teach people how to talk civilly. She will outline the Braver Angels process and then lead two residents, Georgia Fuller and Jane Brungart, to use the process to discuss a divisive topic. GHBC attendees will be seated at tables and explore what they’ve learned and how they might apply those learnings to their relationships. Note: you won’t be discussing the divisive topic that Jane and Georgia discuss.
